The Brief: To produce a global management magazine for Deutsche Post World Net, the world’s 6th largest employer, to inform management worldwide about the people, plans and business benefits behind the business strategy and major global programmes.

The Background: Deutsche Post World Net is the world’s market leader in the international express and logistics industry. Following their announcement of the integration of Danzas, Deutsche Post Euro Express and DHL in 2002, two management publications were amalgamated to create a new publication - Network - in 2005.

The Solution: Network embodies the Group’s brand, vision and values, and fuses individual experience with the corporate whole. Published in English and German for 50,000 executives and senior specialists in over 220 countries world-wide, it aids the consistent cascade of messages across boundaries, business units, countries and cultures.

theblueballroom has a team of three full-time editorial staff in Bonn, who work hand-in-hand with the client and partner agency on editorial and layout planning, researching, interviewing and writing high-quality copy, as well as layout, translations, production, picture sourcing and selection. Our UK operation supports the Bonn team with consultancy on long-term planning, content, layout, the publication’s quality look and feel, and providing regular editorial cover and proof reading.

Network takes a strategic standpoint by presenting the unified voice of the Board of Management: taking substantial business messages, confronting global business issues and intercultural challenges to those who put strategy into action - the people in the field.

Although a global internal magazine, Network features external views from customers, analysts and journalists, giving a wider strategic perspective on the Group’s markets and industry.

The Result: theblueballroom has won an Award of Excellence for Network in the Communicators in Business 2006 and 2007 awards. Judges commented: “Network is by far the most substantial package seen in the competition this year…it doesn’t have a hair out of place.”

Unsolicited feedback endorses the fact that Network is meeting its strategic objectives. It has proved to be a powerful tool to support internal communication - providing an integrated strategic perspective on DPWN’s markets and the industry as a whole. Part of its success is due to the fact that it takes what can often be complex topics and distils them into headline messages through concise, user-friendly copy that managers can use as a communications tool to support the cascade of main business messages to their teams.
