Allegedly, foodies in the US celebrate any number of weird and wonderful days during the year. For example, today (28 November) is National French Toast Day. And did you know November is National Fun with Fondue Month?

There are lots more, for example – National Fettuccine Alfredo Day (7 February), National Trail Mix Day (31 August) and National Spicy Hermit Cookie Day (15 November).

Is it just me, or do you sense the food retailer’s heavy hand behind the pen that picked out such days on the calendar?

However, should you feel the need to celebrate, here’s today’s recipe:

Mix 2 eggs with one cup of milk and1 teaspoon of cinnamon; dip 4 thick pieces of slightly stale bread and fry in a bit of butter until brown; then serve hot with butter and maple syrup.

The good news is that tomorrow is National Chocolates Day, so it’s much easier to join in.
