“So tell your story, take the data of your life and turn it into real people doing real things, and you will move mountains, you will change the world”
Hello, my name’s Issy, I’m 15 and I’ve been working at theblueballroom over the last three days as part of my work experience. I was asked to do some research on storytelling following their workshop on a five step process to ‘Harnessing the Power of Storytelling’.
I found a very interesting post on TEDx of Dave Lieber discussing ‘The power of storytelling to change the world’, he talks about the storytelling formula and how it is applicable to everything, from the Greek and Roman Myths to the TV, “the novel of our time”, and even YOUR story.
Dave Lieber’s Storytelling Formula shows a very dynamic progression from the beginning of a story where characters are introduced, right down to the low point when the villain is dragging the hero down, then the lift due to the realisation of a quality they didn't know they had that allows the hero to fight back and then finally the denouement, where “the loose ends must be tied”.
I took his imagery and created a video to show the highs and lows of a good story, I decided to use the well-known fairy tale of ‘Hansel and Gretel’ to help with the audience’s understanding at each checkpoint.
I’d like to say a BIG THANK YOU to everybody at theblueballroom for helping me and allowing me to have this experience. :)
