A recent speech from Creative Shop’s Rob Newlan, stated that Instagram is primarily utilised by its users to express creativity and to engage with it. This is bad news for the generic marketing style of plastering a message all over a billboard.

Newland insisted that brands are more successful when they observe what people really want when using the platform, rather than when they just interrupt the market.

There are three main reasons why people use Instagram; “an aesthetic lens, a collective lens and an inspiration exchange”.

A third of people believe there is an art to posting a good picture on Instagram, meaning there is a certain aspiration that comes from the platform.

At the end of the day, brands need to understand this if they want to communicate with their Instagram followers. By giving back and being inspirational in each post, you will acquire a larger audience who want to follow you not just for your product, but for your message as well.
