Very recently it was announced that Planet Earth will have its own flag. It will primarily be used for space missions and when mankind manages to land on Mars. The design embodies the fact that, despite our various nationalities and differences, we are all people sharing the same planet.

Oskar Pernefeldt, the designer of the flag, describes it as follows: "Centred in the flag, seven rings form a flower -- a symbol of the life on Earth. The rings are linked to each other, which represents how everything on our planet, directly or indirectly, are linked."

The linking rings design really got me thinking about how we live in a world where we are always in close communication with each other. Human interaction is essential for us if we wish to develop ourselves and explore new worlds. From Twitter and Facebook, to astronauts communicating through space, it is all based around getting a message across in an effective manner.

No matter what, all of mankind’s achievements will ultimately be stemmed from very humble beginnings; interaction and communication.
