Communicating is simple. Everyone does it every day - when we speak to partners, children, colleagues, neighbours etc. So why do so many people find it so difficult to communicate in writing?

Here are my four golden tips for better writing. Follow these tips and your written words will be as effective as your spoken ones:

What’s the hook?

Determine the most interesting and attention-grabbing aspect of the topic you are writing about, then put it in your first sentence.

KISS (keep it short and simple)

Aim to keep all of your sentences short, at around 20 words, and aim to limit each sentence to no more than three linked ideas.

What’s in it for me?

Always have this marketing principle in mind when it comes to understanding your audience and meeting their needs.

Accuracy

Always check and doublecheck your copy for factual, spelling and grammatical errors.
