Even rabid emoticon haters will concede that a winking ‘face’ can defuse terse emails. But are business communicators ready to add an emoji?
Emojis are changing the way people communicate – for example, nearly half of all Instagram texts now include one.
Unlike the typographic facial expressions of emoticons or kaomojis, emojis are actual pictures.
These ‘pictographs’ share emotions without needing to explicitly say how you feel and, increasingly, are replacing the online use of slang words and phrases.
And, with nearly a thousand to choose from, emojis are as close as humans have yet got to a universal language.
So, ask yourself: can emojis help you to effectively deliver your key business messages?
