Next up in my one minute interview series with the team is Emily Bateman, our Marketing Manager. Emily joined us with a massively eclectic background: publishing, retail, recruitment - you name it, she's got experience in it! She's got a special love for PR and social media and the team wouldn't be the same without her even after just four and a half short months! What is your favourite thing about being a Marketing Manager (MM), especially agency side?
One of my favourite things I have noticed working agency side is how awesome it is to have the luxury of working with so many skilled marketers. Whether it is advice on copy, design ideas or technical expertise, working collaboratively has been really enjoyable.
What has been the best project you’ve worked on so far in your MM life?
Working on running successful events is always rewarding. Most recently thefuturestory and DigitalSurrey events have been great projects to get stuck into and I'm looking forward to running the next ones.
What would be a ‘what not to do’ as an MM?
Do not assume that things are being looked after by somebody else during a project. Assumption can lead to errors and in worse case scenarios, deadlines being missed. It is important to keep on top of your work and ensure communication is consistent.
Give me your top three tips on being the brilliant MM that you are:
- Always be proactive in your approach. Creative ideas are fantastic – but if it's all thinking and no doing, those ideas have no value
- Develop your skill of understanding different perspectives. Having this insight will help focus your strategies and create content that your target audience can relate to
- Stay up to date with the latest industry insights and trends. There is always something you can be learning and you never know what will inspire you next.
