From today, employees with more than six months’ service have the right to ask their employers for flexible working arrangements that, until now, had been open to carers and parents only. The move reflects the growing importance of flexible working and would enhance employee engagement according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.

Flexible working comprises:

  • Job share
  • Working from home
  • Part time hours
  • Compressed hours
  • Flexitime
  • Annualised hours
  • Staggered hours
  • Phased retirement

At theblueballroom, we already offer flexible working. Some of us work part-time while others work staggered hours. I work an eight-day fortnight meaning I get a long weekend every two weeks. Everyone can ask to work at home when the need arises.

Flexible working is a great idea as long as it does not impact negatively on our clients or our colleagues. That means the need for effective communication all round, something we are proud to say we pride ourselves on at theblueballroom.
