We plan to put five questions to each of the WXG (www.wxg.co.uk) conference’s speakers to give you a look into their talks, histories and what inspires them to do what they do. Introducing the fourth speaker, Stuart Memo. Why did you agree to speak at WXG?
I actually had a speaker at last year's event tell me what a great crowd it was! Also, The Stranglers are from Guilford. They might come and see my talk :)
What do you think delegates will get out of your talk?
I hope to surprise them with the current capabilities of web browsers. The Web Audio API seems to be a hidden gem that not many people talk about. I want to excite people by showing them what you can do with just a few lines of code, and hopefully inspire them to make something musical!
How did you get into making music with the web?
I've made music pretty much my whole life, it's my #1 passion. My #2 passion however is the web! So it was inevitable that there was going to be some crossover at some point.
Who is your inspiration in the industry?
I'd actually say that most of my inspiration comes from outside the industry. The DIY and punk ethic of making music for yourself without caring what others think definitely inspires whatever I make on the web. I do it because I enjoy it and have a passion for it. I couldn't care less if you think it's rubbish :)
What advice would you give to someone new to the industry?
The industry is full of know-it-alls who will try to make you insecure about your work. Ignore them and enjoy yourself.
