As a company that does business both at home and abroad, we’re keen to follow discussions taking place during next week’s World Trade Week UK, where the spotlight will be on the importance of global trade in creating jobs and will, no doubt, look at ways of building business with organisations overseas.
Because of our client base, we’ve done a lot of work with teams of people from different cultures, backgrounds and languages and always find working with multicultural teams a positive and enriching experience.
But we also know how vital it is to have at least a basic understanding of the different cultural backgrounds of individuals within a team, as well as knowledge of work practices to enable all parties to unite as a team. When creating communication material, it’s also critical to avoid idiom, buzzwords, jargon or use imagery that may confuse or, even worse, offend.
We’ll be interested to see if this essential part of doing business abroad – productive and positive intercultural communications – gets an airing on the agenda.
