It sits along with corporate and them some. Neha is right internal and external messaging should be aligned as much as possible so sitting with Corp Comms makes sense. But let's not forget that HR have a massive stake in the messages and that the measurement of internal factors are probably more likely to come out in HR functions ie appraisals training etc.

So in my view it shouldn't be pidgeon holed into a function but should have in effect a foot in both functions. IC should be the most fluid function in a business in my eyes and to label it as part of another function will not do it justice when we are trying the push IC up the agenda of businesses. When i'm a CEO (Stop laughing at the back) IC would stand alone but would share and collaborate every day with both HR and Corp comms

I believe 2010 will see a practical manifestation of the overlapping social technology, internal communications and organisational behaviour industries, in the emergence of the Social Business Design.....It’s more than just having social software switched on, it’s about flattening traditional corporate hierarchies to unlock customer, workforce and supplier engagement and collaboration, and driving drive insight, collaborative innovation and enhanced learning.

would love to chat to you guys more about how your own movements in this area....

Great blog, and I agree about it all being about mixing and matching. I do get concerned when people talking about a separate social media strategy for internal comms. In my view, it's all about integrating the two together - more of an evolution of your current internal comms strategy and channel mix. Interesting times huh?!
